Winter Advisory Translation

This time of year it's always a good idea to check the weather report before you just go bursting outdoors to do your chores. This morning I had an automated message from our county Emergency Management.

What it said:
...FRIGID TEMPERATURES EARLY THIS MORNING...
ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE BRINGING CLEAR SKIES AND CALM WINDS TO
CENTRAL INDIANA HAS ALLOWED TEMPERATURES TO PLUMMET. WITH THE
LIGHT TO CALM WINDS...WIND CHILLS ARE SIMILAR TO THE AIR
TEMPERATURE. THESE VALUES WILL VARY FROM JUST BELOW ZERO IN SPOTS
ALL THE WAY DOWN TO TEN TO FIFTEEN BELOW ZERO. TEMPERATURES SHOULD
RISE QUICKLY AFTER SUNRISE THIS MORNING. IN THE MEANTIME PEOPLE ARE URGED
TO AVOID EXTENDED TIME OUTSIDE AND TO DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE
COLD AIR THEY WILL ENCOUNTER.
Allow me to translate:
The current temperature is 3* but since the wind has stopped blowing hard it only feels like -3* instead of the -12* we had yesterday morning. (Yay?)  And take heart! Once the sun comes up and starts working it's magic, the temperature is going to soar up to 29*! Close your eyes and feel the light on your face as you slide on top of the inches thick ice that now has a shiny wet surface! If your critters want fed before that, do it in short bursts going in and out of the cold multiple times. Be sure to go out with 6 layers of clothing and a face mask with tiny eye openings and 2 pairs of socks and gloves on (what??  you need to open locked gates and carry buckets of water? ) Bahahaha

  1. We're pretty much in the same boat up here in the Northern part of the state. Like you, we are soooo ready to be done with winter. For several weeks now I've looked at the long range predictions and saw that it should better next week. Next week comes and its the same story. In the mean time we've come to enjoy our "warm" 15 degrees days. But take heart! I just looked that forecast for next week. It's good news!!!
